Booking and Pre-booking questions
1. What do you do exactly?

We offer Spray Painting services, specialising in Respraying Kitchens.
We don't replace doors or parts of the carcass. We just fix all the surface imperfections and then spray paint it.
We achieve a factory-type finish and "brand new look" using the latest professional materials, spray painting equipment and working techniques.

2. Do you replace doors, worktops, flooring or tiles?

No, we are just respraying your current kitchen cabinets, doors, drawer fronts and carcass.
We also can spray tiles or wardrobes. Also, we can help in changing door handles \ knobs.
We DON'T make new doors, new cupboards, kitchen islands, or change worktops and flooring.

3. How does it work?

We work in an "Uber-like" decentralised way when marketing and all the initial coordination are done by our Kitchen Makeup Team, and then the job will be assigned to one of our independent self-employed sprayers. Some of them are Ltd owners, and some of them are sole traders. They are the best spray painters in London, and we have worked together for more than 5+ years.

4. To whom will I need to pay?

To stay under the VAT threshold and to keep our prices low, we split the payments between Kitchen Makeup and Sprayers.
The booking fee and initial deposit are usually paid to us, and the final payment is made directly to the sprayer.
When everything is confirmed, we will send you an invoice, and you will need to pay it, usually in 2 or 3 parts:
-
a. Booking fee (£100) - when the job is booked more than two weeks ahead (this amount will be deducted from the final invoice)
-
b. 40-50% advance for materials - ~2-3 weeks before the beginning of the job.
-
c. Final 50-60% - when everything is finished, and you are happy with the final result.
These are our general practices, but we may do it differently, considering the individual needs of the client.

5. Do you cover my area?

Now we cover the whole London area and everything that is about a 90-minute drive around it. It includes:

Greater London area, Essex, Kent, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire,
Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Parts of West Oxfordshire and Reading, Colchester,
Areas northward to Coventry, Leicester, and Peterborough.

As we have a team of sprayers living in different areas of London, for some of them, your address could still be within a reasonable travel distance.
You can check our Service Area Map here.

Just fill out our enquiry form and get an obligation-free estimate in just 48 hours.

7. How do I get an estimate?

You can fill out our enquiry form on our web page: https://kitchenmakeup.co.uk, or you can email us with pictures of your kitchen or call us.
As we have been spraying kitchens for many years, we do not require a site visit for that. But in some rare situations, a site visit can be arranged.

8. How soon can you start?

Usually, due to our big team, we have available slots in 2-4 weeks. Occasionally we can fit customers even sooner if other clients decide to change their dates due to some personal situation or when other trades are behind their schedule.

9. How long does it take?

A small kitchen usually needs 2-3 days to finish, a medium kitchen might take 3-4 days, and in some exceptional cases, work might require more than 4-5 days.
But all this can be discussed and adjusted if needed because we can arrange more sprayers or helpers on site to finish it faster.
10. Do you accept credit cards?

Yes, Debit or credit cards – can be used, but they will have an extra fee of about 3%
Bank wire transfer is our main option as it's secure, fast, reliable and incurs no extra fees.
Kitchen Makeover Process
1. What does your spraying process look like?

To make the process fast and easy (and cheaper for the client) majority of the kitchens are usually sprayed in 2 stages
Removable doors and drawer fronts are sprayed in the workshop and fixed non-removable parts are sprayed on-site (in situ).

2. Kitchen Respray stages

~1 Day – Preparation: doors removal, taking doors to the workshop, preparation, priming

~2 Days – Workshop Spraying: spraying doors in the workshop and drying
~1-2 Days – On-Site Spraying & Finishing: protecting all the surrounding area and inside of the cabinet and preparing the surface for spraying, spraying carcass on-site, putting back all the doors, removing protection, cleaning.

3. Is it messy?

All the working areas and places around will be carefully masked up and protected.
Also, we use special equipment that minimises overspray.
So your kitchen will be turned new with minimal mess during the process and minimal disruption of your daily life.

4. Do you paint the inside kitchen cupboards?

Most of our clients prefer to leave them unfinished, as this is the most cost-effective solution. However, we can discuss other options with you.

5. What colour can I choose?

You can choose any colour. The majority of our clients use popular colours from palettes like Farrow and Ball, Little Greene, Dulux and RAL. But our paint supplier can colour-match any other colour; you just need to send them a colour sample by post, if they don't have it in their system.

6. How to choose a colour?

First, you can get an idea of colour by browsing famous colour palettes like Farrow and Ball or Little Greene.
https://www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours
https://www.littlegreene.com/paint/colour
You are not limited just by these colour palettes, as our paint supplier can match any colour.
Then after you get some idea of one or a few colours, you can go to any DIY store and get samples of these colours, to see them in reality. Once you are sure about your choice, just let us know and we will check if this colour can be mixed using just a colour name or if it will require a sample.

7. What sheen do you offer?

Our paint can be 10% Matt\Matte, 30% Sattin or 50% Semi-Gloss sheen.

But 95% of our projects use 10% Matt\Matte finish, as Matt finish is more practical for kitchen painting.
Because it has a low-sheen appearance that is less likely to show fingerprints, smudges, and stains than a gloss finish.
Additionally, a matte finish is more resistant to wear and tear and easier to clean.

8. What paint do you use?

For kitchen respraying, we use a special water-based acrylic and polyurethane resin paint (NOT PU), ensuring superb adhesion, excellent hardness and colour retention. This is a specialized professional product specially designed for interior refurbishment projects and it costs ~30-50% more than branded paint from Farrow and Ball or Little Greene.

We proudly use water-based paint, prioritizing environmental friendliness, although it may not achieve the same level of smoothness as PU-based alternatives.

9. How many coats will be applied?

It depends on the surface. If it's in good condition, we do cleaning, degreasing and denibbing (slight scratching with sanding paper to increase adhesion). Then prime with the top coat paint and then apply the top coat.
We use the wet-on-wen technique, so with one go there will be 2 coats of primer and then 2 coats of paint. This is the minimum that we do.
If the surface needs extra attention, it might need extra sanding, extra priming or an extra few coats of paint.

10. How to prepare for the Kitchen Respray?

-
Ensure Parking availability for the first and last few days of the project. If only paid parking is available at your location, parking charges will be added to the final invoice.
-
Ensure kitchen doors and surfaces are free from grease and other dirt, as we may charge extra for cleaning. Please ensure that all surfaces of the doors and drawer fronts are cleaned thoroughly as we'll be respraying all of them, not just the fronts.
-
In case your kitchen has the visible lower surface of the wall hanging cabinets, that you want to paint, please make sure that those surfaces are also free from grease.
-
The best degreasing solution we found so far is Methylated Spirit from Bartoline brand. It's widely available in all the DIY stores.
-
Make all the surfaces that will need spraying easily accessible. For example, if we agreed to spray the fridge niche, the fridge must be removed, so we had full access to that area.
-
You don’t need to empty all the cupboards if spraying inside the cabinets was not discussed.
-
However, once the masking is applied, usually it will be done on the last 1-2 days of the respray process, it will not be convenient to access the contents of the cupboards.
-
So, to ensure that the process goes smoothly and to avoid any inconvenience, it will be better if you remove any items that you might need during the kitchen respray.
-
Keep in mind and plan that during the agreed on-site respray period (usually last 1-2 days) you won’t be able to use your kitchen, even when we are not there, as all the masking needs to stay in place to ensure excellent respray without problems.
-
If masking is removed, it will need to be redone from scratch, to ensure the protection of the surfaces that are not supposed to be sprayed. This extra work will be added as an additional expense for an extra £30 per hour.
-
Please note, that during the respray process, some dust may be generated due to the nature of the spraying process when small paint particles dry in the air. This is a normal occurrence and should not cause any concern. This dust is typically fine and easy to clean with a dry cloth or vacuum cleaner. It is important to note that the dust is safe and does not pose any health risks to the occupants of the house. We will do our best to minimise dust, cover everything and clean the area after we finish, but still, it’s not possible to totally avoid it.

11. Will I have to be at home?

It is entirely up to you; we simply require access to the property for all the days when we will be working on-site.
Usually, it's the first day (only 1-2 hours) to collect the doors and the last 1-2 full days for on-site spraying.

12. Can we change the handles \ knobs?

Yes, we can change your handles.
Just make sure you let us know about this beforehand, as it may require some extra preparation (filling old holes or drilling new ones), and that needs to be planned to avoid extra unnecessary work.
If new handles fit the existing holes, we will replace the handles for free, and in the case when some holes need filling and drilling, it will incur some additional charge.

13. What to do first - Kitchen Respray or other works (changing worktop, changing floors, tilling, painting walls)

From our experience, We've had clients who approached their kitchen renovations in different orders, and it worked out well for them. A good worktop company, flooring company, tiling company, and painters know how to protect the other parts of the kitchen from damage.
However, the best practice is to complete the heavy work, such as changing worktops, flooring and tiling, first. Then, do the kitchen respray just before painting the walls. This approach ensures the best results and protects the new finishes.
Warranty & Maintenance
1. How do I look after my newly painted kitchen?

The high-integrity cured surface will give many years of service, but as with all painted surfaces, periodic cleaning is necessary. The frequency of such cleaning will depend on the location and exposure to dirt.
In domestic service areas such as bathrooms, washrooms, laundries and kitchens, all surfaces are prone to a build-up of film composed of cooking fats, soap, dust and so on. In time this film can lower the gloss level, or dull the most successful paintwork. Careful and periodic cleaning can extend the service life of painted surfaces and make them look like new by following these easy directions.
-
Although surfaces painted with our paint will be serviceable within around six hours under normal climatic drying conditions, in the unlikely event of any marks arising on the surface, it would be wise to leave any cleaning for a week to ensure thorough curing of this water-based product.

-
Don’t use rough abrasives, stiff scrubbing brushes or harsh caustic preparations as these can ‘gloss’ or polish the surface resulting in obvious highlights (variations in surface gloss levels) which can only be rectified by re-painting.

-
Use warm water to which a small amount of mild detergent has been added.

-
Apply the solution to the affected area with a soft cloth, or soft bristle brush where the marking is particularly stubborn.

-
Clean off the stain in a gentle circular motion, then remove all residues with a clean soft cloth rinsed with fresh, clean water.

-
Having thoroughly cleaned the affected area, you should then proceed to wash down the whole surface area to eliminate any chance of patchiness.

2. What about Warranty?

All our work comes with a 5-year warranty.

Our warranty guarantees that both the workmanship and materials used in our kitchen respray services meet high-quality standards.
From our experience, we can say that if there are any problems, they will become noticeable in 1-2 weeks or a maximum of 1-2 months. And all that is covered by the warranty.
But if the finish does not show any issues within one year, that means it will stay there for many years, like any other factory-grade finish.

3. What is covered by the Warranty?

We guarantee that paint will not crack, peel off, or lose consistency in the normal home environment (including the kitchen and bathroom).
If finish blisters or peels within five years from the date of purchase, we will repair or refinish the item in the original colour and style.

4. What is not covered by the Warranty?

Problems caused by unreasonable or abusive use, fire, freight damage, acts of nature (such as, but not limited to, freezing or high winds), suntan oil or other chemicals, normal UV fading, accidental damage, repair or modifications by a consumer, commercial use, normal wear and tear are excluded from the warranty.

5. Scratch-resistant is not scratch-proof

Our scratch-resistant paint is designed to withstand minor scratches and abrasions better than standard paint. However, it's important to note that no paint is entirely scratch-proof. With enough force or contact with sharp objects, it is possible for the surface to be scratched or chipped.

6. Durability test / Nail test

To ensure the quality and durability of our finish, we perform a nail scratch test during our quality checks. This test involves scratching the painted surface with a fingernail to see if the paint peels or scratches easily. If the paint passes this test without any noticeable damage, it indicates that the paint has good adhesion and a durable finish. However, while this test confirms a certain level of resistance, it does not make the paint immune to scratches.

7. What if I accidentally made small damage?

We always leave some paint, so you can touch up any minor damage.

8. Spraying Tiles

Please note, that respraying tiles may alter their inherent durability and resistance. The painted finish applied during respraying may not match the robustness of the original tiles and ceramics.
Resprayed surfaces may not provide the same level of protection against wear and tear, spills, fire, heat, oil, and other potential damages as the original tile or ceramic surface.
Consequently, any damage incurred due to these factors will not be covered by the warranty.
The point is that although we use high-quality and durable paint, the paint will never be as tough as ceramic tiles.
